Africa’s Development Dynamics 2024: Skills, Jobs and Productivity

A skilled workforce is foundational for Africa’s productive transformation and achieving the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Despite much progress, skill gaps in African labour markets persist, representing a major barrier to increasing labour productivity and the creation of quality jobs. A youthful population and the digital and green transitions offer unique opportunities – and make it an urgent priority – to reskill the workforce of African countries in support of productive transformation. The Africa’s Development Dynamics 2024 report delves into current Africa-specific policy challenges and opportunities for skills development. The report aims to assist African leaders and civil society in reaching the targets of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 at all levels: continental, regional, national, and local.
